I am a big Podcast fan and typically listen to them about 2-3 hours a day. I use my NET (No Extra Time) periods when I am working out, doing my email, or driving. It keeps me up to date and I like getting a good understanding of smart people.
I now have a new favorite, "This Week in Start-ups" by Jason Calacanis. Being a 7 time CEO myself, I would have killed to have these kind of insights early in my career. It is a great mix of intelligent opinion, insightful tips, and funny dialog. It is often more than two hours long and I actually feel bad when it ends. Most podcast lose me in about 30 minutes, but Twist holds my interest throughout the show.
I also really like the segments. It starts with a segment called "Ask Jason" where entrepreneurs call in and ask Jason questions about being entrepreneur. It is a sharp audience, so the questions are very good and cutting edge. He then has great entrepreneurs as guest and digs into their keys for success and challenges. He has had guest from uStream, Billshrink, Topix, even Microsoft. Very sharp guys...very good content. At the end, he has a homework session where he has you read or watch something and then there is a segment on the next show where there is a discussion about what you learned. I didn't do the first two, but then got intrigued and did the rest. It was very interesting and I am going to go back and do the first two.
In addition, I think Jason is one of the few podcasters that gets how to take care of his sponsors. During the podcast, Jason will ask the listeners to thank the sponsors on Twitter. There are several hundred immediate Tweets. Very smart and it does not feel slimy. I can tell you everyone of twist sponsors and I can't do that on any other podcast.
I am not usually a "fanboy", but good work is good work and I think this is great work. If you want to be inspired every week, I highly recommend you tune into "This Week in Startups" (Twist).
