I just joined the beta of Gist, an email add-in that helps you keep track of your important contacts. Gist works with your contacts in Outlook, GMail, and LinkedIn. For Outlook, there is a small application that installs and helps you sync your contacts with their services. For GMail and Linked in, they have a nice wizard that walks you through exporting your contacts to a CSV file and then importing it in.
Once your contacts are in, Gist does some really cool things. It starts by disambiguating all of your company names and giving you background information about each of the companies. It then goes out and finds all the relevant news for each company and contact from news services like Dow Jones and also from the blogosphere.
Finally, it organizes all your email, meetings, and tasks for each contact and company and creates a really nice web profile. Any attachments or links you sent are separated into their own little widget. Contacts and Companies are organized by the ones that are most "Important". It also creates a Dashboard that shows all the new news from active contacts and companies.
Gist is going in a nice direction. This kind of "Web Intelligence" is very valuable. I would like to see it have better integration with Outlook, like its own tab or side panel like Xobni. It would also be great to organize my Companies and Contacts into "Circles of Influence", i.e. my inner circle, family circle, business circle, etc. Then allow me to say how often I want to communicate with each circle or individual contact and remind me when I am loosing contact. I would also like to see and integrations with the social feeds like Facebook, LinkedIn, or even Twit.
